Social and Emotional Program
The Social and Emotional Program is crucial in providing practical support services to clients, particularly where there is a time delay before they can get an appointment with a counsellor or psychologist. Assistance includes such things as helping to resolve a housing issue, understanding Centrelink payments and providing other advocacy support for clients. Often it can be a practical issue that is impacting significantly on a client’s mental health and emotional wellbeing and once rectified clients no longer need our support. Other times clients may need ongoing support and/or generalist counselling for mental health and related issues.
Often clients with social and emotional health issues will need assistance from other Wurli programs in order to best address the concerns that they present with. This program provides a linking service and the range of knowledge in all the teams allows us to provide a holistic care plan.
We have a strong focus on suicide prevention with the Wellbeing Unit working closely with Menzies School of Health, the Australian Indigenous Psychologists Association and Top End Mental Health Services on suicide prevention and intervention.
